Hindsight Records is an American record company founded by Wally Heider that began in the 1940's.

Wally Heider (1923–1989) was an American recording engineer and recording studio owner (Wally Heider Studios.) After a distinguished career as an engineer in the 1940s and 1950s, he was instrumental in recording the San Francisco Sound in the late 1960s and early 1970s. A significant number of Rolling Stone Magazine's Top 500 albums were recorded in his studio including Volunteers by Jefferson Airplane, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young with Crazy Horse, Déjà Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Electric Warrior by T. Rex, Tupelo Honey by Van Morrison,  American Beauty by the Grateful Dead, Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival, Amazing Grace by Aretha Franklin and Abraxas by Santana.

When Wally Heider learned that the Big Bands had made recordings specifically for use on radio broadcast only-and that these recordings had never been commercially released-he made it his business to track them down. It took him years, as part of his quest included getting permission from the band leaders or their heirs to release the recordings, he finally amassed a superb collection. Collecting everything from Big band to Country. He then set forth to work faithfully transferring these one of a kind originals to records and cassette tapes of the highest quality, using state-of-the-art equipment. What you hear on these records is not a re-creation of the original. It is the original, the real thing.

Heider went further. He contacted the leading music historians of the day, men like George Simon,Brad McCuen, and Irving Townsend, and commissioned them to write the brilliant, in depth liner notes you’ll find within each album.

In 1979 Thomas Gramuglia of the Michelex Corporation bought the Hindsight catalog. Through Heider, Hindsight owned over 9,000 copyrights and masters. Thomas Gramuglia continued Hindsight Records Bringing out many more albums from Great artists. These include Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Les Brown, Duke Ellington ,Waylon Jennings and many others. Thomas also went on to create Country Rewind Records and Stradivari Classics

2020 will see Hindsight Records relaunching in UK/Europe. Gary Gillies and Sean Gillies from Sleepy Night Records will be running this company. They will be Re-releasing the Hindsight catalog with new Artwork packaging, Remastered and New formats. Also bringing out unheard material from Great legends.
